Honest, candid and straightforward ideas for living a fulfilling life and reaching our potential. Hiya. I'm Matthew Royston, the husband of one, father of four, and The Bold Brit [honest, candid, Inspiring]. I grew up in Bristol, England but currently enjoy living in Utah, United States. I want to live a fulfilling life, reach my potential, and help others do the same. I have concluded that progress in our personal development, robust personal relationships, deep and abiding faith in Jesus Christ, and having a healthy body and mind are the core components of a fulfilling life. The rest of life is often insignificant, or unimportant.

It’s funny how thoughts come to our minds at unexpected times and moments. This happened to me today as I sat eating lunch whilst running some errands.

As I sat looking around the restaurant lobby at some of the couples who had the same idea as me to come to this particular establishment, the thought came to me that flowers are good, but fidelity is better.

One interpretation of this thought that I have had is that we cannot buy our way to a happy marriage. We cannot put lipstick on a pig and call it good, or expect it to be good. A pig is a pig whichever way you dress it up.

Flowers and other gifts are a welcome addition when there is fidelity, but gifts cannot make up for a lack of fidelity.

We could buy our spouse the world, but it will mean so very little if we are unable or unwilling to give our whole-hearted, continued devotion, commitment, and fidelity.

Now perhaps a thought to the men and women who have been unfaithful to their spouse in one way or another. There is no mess that cannot be cleaned, or something so broken it cannot be mended. It will take time, humility, patience and commitment, but it can be done, if that is what you really want.

And just a quick thought to those who’s spouses have been unfaithful in one way or another; be patient, forgiving and kind. No one will ever blame you for feeling hurt or betrayed, but just be careful to not allow such feelings to bleed into every area and happy memory of your life.

I have shared just one of many possible interpretations on the thought; flowers are good, but fidelity is better, what is your interpretation? Please share a thought or two in the comments.
